The Benedictine monks of St. Procopius Abbey founded Benedictine University in Chicago in 1887. Original students were of Czech and Slovak descent. The College moved to Lisle, Illinois in a beautiful campus atmosphere. It went coeducational in 1968 and was renamed Illinois Benedictine College in 1971. It became Benedictine University in 1996.
